William W. Brooke

Mr. Brooke is one of the founders of HMC. He serves on the boards of Aldagen, Innovative Biosensors, Maxcyte and Optimal Readings, as well as Southeast BIO, Atlanta Venture Forum, Biotechnology Association of Alabama, TechBirmingham and Innovation Depot. Mr. Brooke is also a board observer at nContact Surgical. He has been advising early-stage companies for more than twenty years and previously served on the boards of AV Holdings (Atherotech), Visador, Nationwide Homes and Emageon (NASDAQ: EMAG). He is also a Partner of the Harbinger/Aurora Venture Funds and serves on their Investment Committee and Members’ Advisory Committee. An Executive Vice President and Board member of HMC since its inception, Mr. Brooke initially served as the firm’s General Counsel and later as its Chief Operating Officer. Before joining HMC, Mr. Brooke served as General Counsel of Harbert Corporation. Prior to that role, he was a founder and managing partner of Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff and Brandt, a law firm in Birmingham, AL. He is a guest lecturer on venture capital for the MBA programs at the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and he previously served as Chairman of Southeast BIO. He holds a degree in law (J.D.) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Alabama, where he currently is a member of the President’s Cabinet and is Chairman of the Board of Visitors of the College of Commerce and Business Administration.

Wayne L. Hunter

Mr. Hunter joined HMC in 2002 and serves on the boards of Broadsource, Privaris, TapRoot Systems, Unitrends and WindChannel Communications, as well as the Council for Entrepreneurial Development in North Carolina and the Florida Venture Forum. Mr. Hunter was named as one of the “25 Most Influential People in Southeast Technology” by TechJournal South. Prior to joining HMC, he was a founding Managing Director and Head of Wachovia’s Technology Investment Banking Group. In addition, he was a member of Wachovia's Private Equity/Venture Capital Fund Investment Committee and served on Wachovia’s Investment Banking Management Committee. Following the organization of the Harbinger/Aurora Venture Funds, Mr. Hunter served with Mr. Brooke on their Members’ Advisory Committee. He has more than twenty years of experience working with leading entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. During his tenure in investment banking, he advised on more than one hundred financing and M&A transactions totaling $24 billion. His mergers and acquisitions and financial advisory experience encompass the software, IT services, communications services and equipment sectors. Mr. Hunter holds a degree in law (J.D.) from the University of Alabama School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University.

Thomas D. Roberts III

Mr. Roberts joined HMC in 2002 and serves on the boards of Agility Healthcare Solutions, ION Healthcare, JackBe and WindChannel Communications, and is a board observer at Innovative Biosensors. He is also a member of the steering committee for the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association Capital Connection, the selection committee for the Florida Venture Forum and a board member of The Virginia Biosciences Development Center and the Virginia Biotechnology Association. Before joining HMC, Mr. Roberts was a senior investment banker for Wachovia, where he executed public and private equity and M&A advisory transactions for clients in the technology and telecom and healthcare sectors. He was a founding member of Wachovia’s Technology Investment Banking Group. Prior to investment banking, he was with Markowitz & McNaughton, a strategy consulting firm, specializing in competitive analysis, market opportunity assessment, benchmarking and acquisition buy-side search and due diligence services. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia.

John R. Uhrin

Mr. Uhrin joined HMC in 2002 and has more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Mr. Uhrin serves on the board of nContact Surgical and assists several companies through board visitation rights, such as Aldagen, Innovative Biosensors and Maxcyte. He also serves as a board member or advisor to numerous regional life science focused organizations, including the University of Florida’s Sid Martin Biotechnology Incubator, University of Virginia’s Nursing Ventures Board, Southeast BIO, Mid-Atlantic Venture Association’s life science committee and the CIT GAP BioLife Fund. He also is active with the technology transfer efforts of numerous universities, including University of Alabama-Birmingham, University of Florida, University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, Georgia Institute of Technology and Duke University. Before joining HMC, he was employed by BioCryst Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: BCRX), where he served as Vice President of Corporate Development. While there, he managed in- and out-licensing of products and technologies to execute research, discovery functions and commercialization strategies; coordinated contractual arrangements with corporate partners and developed and maintained relationships with the biotech industry and academic research institutions. He was also employed with Genentech, Inc. for twelve years and served in numerous positions, including as Director of Special Markets/Managed Care, where he directed a multi-state domestic and international region, focusing on managed care organizations, insurance companies, HMO’s and Integrated Networks. Before joining Genentech, Mr. Uhrin spent ten years at Eli Lilly & Company. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is currently a registered pharmacist in the state of North Carolina.

Robert L. Crutchfield

Mr. Crutchfield joined HMC in September 2008 and has more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry with both startup and large, international corporations. Mr. Crutchfield has held sales, management and corporate leadership roles with companies including Karl Storz Endoscopy, Cardinal Health and US Oncology. In 1995, Mr. Crutchfield founded Surgical Innovations and Services, Inc. (SIS), a surgical laser management company. Under his leadership, SIS became a leader in the emerging outsource management sector, with over 300 hospitals and surgery centers under contract with SIS for management oversight and delivery of their surgical laser programs. In 2000, SIS merged with Surgical Laser Technologies, Inc. (SLTI) a publicly traded surgical laser-manufacturing firm. Mr. Crutchfield continued as President of SIS and served as VP of Sales, Marketing and Business Development for SLTI. After the acquisition of SLTI by publicly-traded Photomedex, Inc., Mr. Crutchfield joined Cardinal Health, where he served as Vice President of New Ventures. While there, he built a new EBITDA revenue stream through licensing of new technologies, acquisitions and creating a new North American sales channel. Mr. Crutchfield subsequently served as Senior Vice President/General Manager of the Pharmacy Services Division at US Oncology, a privately held, vertically integrated cancer care provider network with cancer clinics in more than 440 sites of service and a physician network consisting of over 1000 medical oncologists and radiation oncologists. His division was responsible for approximately $2 billion of annual revenue, and under his leadership, the division’s EBITDA grew to over $80 million. Mr. Crutchfield has launched five successful new business ventures during his private and corporate career and has lead four merger and acquisition transactions. Mr. Crutchfield is a graduate of the University of Georgia and holds Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Chemistry.

Jeff T. Harris

Mr. Harris joined HMC in 2002 and assisted in the initial launch of HVP I. Before becoming a Principal for the venture capital team, he served as an in-house counsel for HMC. He also served on the investment committees for both HVP I and Harbert Mezzanine Partners, LP. Mr. Harris serves as a board member of the Birmingham Venture Club and is actively involved in sourcing IT and healthcare investment opportunities in several key markets, including Atlanta, Florida, Nashville, North Carolina and Virginia. Prior to joining HMC, Mr. Harris worked in the Colorado office of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, LLP, where he worked closely with early and later stage companies and participated in numerous venture capital financings, public offerings and M&A transactions. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, summa cum laude and co-valedictorian, from Wake Forest University and a degree in law (J.D.), with distinction, from Stanford Law School.

Brian C. Carney

Before joining HMC in 2007, Mr. Carney was an associate with Morgan Stanley Venture Partners where he evaluated and executed healthcare investment opportunities and was a financial analyst in Morgan Stanley's Healthcare Investment Banking Group. Mr. Carney holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Washington & Lee University.

William A. Dow

Mr. Dow joined HMC in 2006 to assist in the area of financial analysis and market research. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University.
