Harbert Management Corporation’s back office infrastructure supports the various investment teams with risk management, legal and compliance, investor relations and investor reporting services. These services are also available to assist portfolio companies where appropriate.

Investment Committees

Each of our private capital and real estate investment strategies is monitored by a separate investment committee. The committees include at least one member of the firm’s Board of Directors who is not engaged in the day-to-day execution of the strategy. These investment committees must unanimously approve any commitment of capital.

Risk Monitoring

We attempt to monitor risk in the absolute return strategies through the development of specific Fund guidelines for concentration, leverage, and other portfolio parameters.  Each Fund’s portfolio is monitored against these guidelines by HMC’s independent risk management staff at its corporate headquarters.

Accounting and Controls

HMC’s corporate staff includes over 20 CPAs, including two dedicated internal auditors and a chartered accountant. Investor reports on strategy performance are prepared independently of the investment teams.

Legal and Compliance

The firm’s legal department also includes eight attorneys who independently review documents presented to our investors, and who participate on investment committees to assist in the assessment of potential investments. In addition, our full-time compliance staff monitors the regulatory requirements of our practice.

Investor Relations

The firm’s constant search for new investment partners is spearheaded by a dedicated team of professionals. Fund managers meet with potential investors only after relationship managers determine that an investor has a genuine interest and that the investor is appropriately qualified.
